A new name is just one of the many changes patrons of the Pittsworth Leagues Club will see as the iconic local sports club undergoes some major changes.
The club will now trade under the name of Club Pittsworth, a title that befits the club’s commitment to community recreation including not only rugby league but cricket, soccer, croquet, netball and touch football.
Club President Eric Short believes the name change will “create a new environment without stigmas or perception that the Club only caters to Rugby League because of the word Leagues in the Pittsworth Leagues Club name.
“There has been confusion that the Pittsworth Leagues Club and the Danes Rugby League Club were of the same identity which is not the case. “People may have not been aware that we are a community run organisation separate to all affiliate clubs”, Eric said.
Club Pittsworth will present itself as a two-tier organisation. Foremost the club, as a business, will provide the town with a venue available for hire as well as a family oriented dining and beverage location, open daily for the enjoyment of all members of the community.
Club Pittsworth will also operate as a home for the affiliate clubs who will have full access to the club’s facilities, benefitting from proposed future development of the grounds.
A block of land at the rear of the grounds in Stanley Street has been earmarked by the club, with development plans for the land to be released for public view and consultation within the next few months.
Potential plans for the block include a children’s playground, undercover sports facility, multi-use netball and basketball courts and additional parking.
Club Pittsworth has recently received funding from the Toowoomba Regional Council to go towards the construction of a full length deck at the front of the clubhouse with an expected commencement date of December. Other plans the club have in place are underway including new logo and branding, uniforms and club website for ease of bookings and affiliate club information all in which will culminate in the official unveiling of the new deck due to be completed in March 2014.
The current committee behind the transition of the club are grateful for the hard work and dedication of so many members of the Pittsworth community who have led the club from its fledgling days and are confident Club Pittsworth will be “the place to be”.
“Recent visitors from all over Queensland have commented on the very high standard of the Clubs grounds and facilities, which is a great reflection of the pride instilled within the PIttsworth community.
